Quilts of Valor

In January we started a "Quilts of Valor' group in our GA/TN border area.  We meet once a month at Fran's House where she feeds us a wonderful lunch and then we get to stitch for as long as we want.  We generally stay until the end of the day to see how far and what we can accomplish.  Well on Wednesday we did manage to get oh I am going to say at least 5 tops finished and I think Linda got 5 pillow cases done also, it might of been 4 I am not sure but here are some pics from a wonderful day filled with friends, fellowship, laughs and delicious food.  We are in district 8 and hopefully next month we will have them completely finished but then I don't want to get to far ahead of myself.  Please let me introduce my partners in crime, Karen, the blonde; Linda, the one holding the pillowcase; Fran the  lady who shares her beautiful home with us and is a delicious cook; and then Lauren and Cindy were there also but they do not like their picture taken; and then me,  The quilt top I finished is the one where you only see the feet at the bottom.....lol.  I think it is a wonderful cause; a way to get involve with your community  and just a great way to say "thank you" to those who gave so much in one way or the other....have a good night everyone.

Happy International Quilt Day!

Good Morning everyone and I wish you all have a wonderful quilt day!  Wow are we lucky to have this wonderful day to celebrate what we love to do or what?  There are parties all over the blog-isphere, which I hope to attend some of them:  Sew-Cal, IHAN,The Quilt show, Sew-we-Quilt and they are always having a party just to name a few.
As for me I will be spending the morning with a few Ladies that meet up once a month to just share and care and quilt.  I decided I was going to celebrate this day by trying something I have never tried before which is coloring with crayons on fabric.  I have my supplies together to go with me and will post a pic of what I am taking with me and then the results when I come home.  I will also be doing some admin stuff for our local modern quilt group that shouldn't take that long and then back to my sewing room to work on a few other things like a mug rug and catch up on some blocks for my LQS quilt I am doing this year..  No I do not have any plans for doing anything at home today except to stitch.  So that is my day and hopefully I will get some pics done on what all I did get finished on our day of celebrating.
How about you what are some of your plans for today!!!!  Whatever they are I hope you get to enjoy the day.
My project started out with this
And this was after.  I used Crayola crayons on it and just ironed all the wax out and worked great

I also finished my large bag by putting the ties on it and added the flap to the top  and board to the bottom of it and  the day is still young but I do need to squeeze a little nap in ...hope you are having a great day.

I hope whatever you did you manage to be with some friends or was able to get some stitching in just to celebrate this awesome occasion.  You know at one time we never had such a day...am I aging myself now or what?

We have a winner!! for the Blog Hop Party...

Wow what an experience this was.  I want to thank Michele over at the Quilting Gallery for putting this together.  Never in a million years would I think that I would find so many interesting people and blogs out there sharing the same passion as I do for fiber and threads.  I truly hope that we get to know each other better and bond some friendships along the way.
Now onto the winner.  I put all the names into a hat and had my dear hubby pull one out.  I should have taken pictures of it but didn't think of that last night.  I just like doing it that way because using a number generator for me seems so impersonal....that is just my opinion anyway the winner is=============drum roll-----------------

I would LOVE to make a tumbler quilt! And your charm packs are fantastic. Fall and winter are my favorite times of the year! Especially fall... I just love the way the air smells.

I am a new follower and cannot wait to see more of your work!

I have sent an email to StasaLynn so hopefully she will get back with me and if she does not in 24 hours,  I will pull another name.
I will be mailing the prize out on Tuesday and pulling the name for the winner for the "Nancy Drew Mystery" on Monday.
Again thanks for joining me and I hope we have much to share in the future.

Happy Quilting Day to everyone......

Wow what a large bag!

At guild yesterday we were working on a Penny Sturges ps024 Chubby Charmer bag.  I used a charm pack for this bag and yardage for the lining and handles.  I still have to get a magnetic snap for the inside yet but it is a large bag just what you need for going back and forth with quilts and fabric and such....enjoy!

just look at all that room inside.....love it

I do Nancy Drew did you?

Yeah it is finally my turn to do the Nancy Drew fun day!

First off I wanted to know a little more about the Nancy Drew books and such so I went to  Wikipedia to get a little more info and some of this I found to be interesting so just in case some of you are interested this is what I found out:
1)  The mystery series was originally published by Edward Stratemeyer in 1930 as a very young detective.
2)  Then in 1959/60 she was revised to be a less assertive and  more feminine character.
3)  In 1980 she went under another  new revision as much older and more professional....under the title the Nancy Drew Files.
To find out some more facts about The Nancy Drew books please go to Wikipedia *just click*

Now for some fun facts:
What color is Nancy's hair in the original series?...........Titian Blonde
How old was Nancy in the original series?..........16
What was Caolyn Keene's favorite book?.........The Hidden Staircase
What was the original Carolyn Keene's name and how old was she when she died in 2002?..... Mildred Augustine Wirt Benson she was 96

Ok, Ok I am getting on with this but I found some of this very interesting for the fun facts just click
here.

A big "thank you" goes to  Carol  and  Madame Samm for heading this wonderful blog hop...I like many other people held onto fabric waiting for inspiration to hit and then I remembered a good friend of mine who has a movie/game/book/craft night once a month and always sits out different snacks for everyone to have so there is where I started.  To give you an idea of how it turns from dinner night to fun night I have posted a few picks of my table which is similar to her's  and then what I have done for her to change it up a little bit.
this is what my table always looks like and then this is
the table-runner I made now I was going to make place mats to go with it until I saw someone make trays something like these that I made but mine are a little different and I cannot remember who was making  the ones that were similar but if you are reading this please let me know so I can give you kudos for giving me the idea.  So I made 2 serving trays that you can either keep for using in your sewing room for the little stuff we have by our sewing machine or for chocolates and such for movie night...I made one in green and one in blue.
then I had to make a hot plate pad for the hot dish of cheese & salsa
and spread it out because this is how she sets up her table with magazines, wii, books, cards, candies, and dvd's..

then since this is a very long note, thanks for sticking with me,  here they are all together
I do want to say"thank you " for joining me today and please join my other detectives and see what they have in store for you but first let me post a little give a way.  If you would like to have a chance to have your own little kit to make yourself a tray let me know in your comment and I will put your name in a hat and have DH pull a name out after this hop, this one is set with a red background..
Here are my partners in this mystery for today and remember just have fun...thanks for attending the show!

UPDATE:  Since so many have inquired on where I got my fabric tray idea.  I can tell you that I got the idea from here http://www.skiptomylou.org/2011/09/13/fabric-trays/ although mine are a little different the basics are the same.  I did not leave my folds out I sewed them in to give it a box look and I top stitched along the edge of the bottom to make them more firm on the bottom  So take a look and make it your own.  Hope this helps.  If I get time I will do a tutorial on them later in the week.  They really are fun and quick to make and in any size you like.  also I was just informed from Linda over at http://buzzingandbumbling.blogspot.com/  that she has done similar ones also and I just checked and she has a wonderful tutorial on them so please check her out also...thanks Linda I kind of like those myself with the handles and all.  I will be making some of those, appreciate it.

Modern Mosaic Quilt Guild block

We are working on a challenge this year in our Modern Quilt Guild.  We are going to do a 12.5" quilt block every month we are starting out with an easier one and as the year progresses it will be more challenging.  This month we were doing a block called Modern Mosaic and if you go to this link she does a wonderful tutorial on it http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2012/01/mod-mosaic-tutorials.html.  This months called for a larger block and we can add to the pile of blocks that were handed in and whole point of that is to give all those that turned in a chance to win the blocks.  I have not finished that one yet but hope to before this evening ends so I will have one to turn in because this one is too add to my own that is why I made it a 12.5 so help me keep my fingers crossed that I get my other one done in time.  But here it is and I really enjoyed doing this also..have a great night

Modern Spring Table- runner

Our Modern Quilt Meeting is tomorrow and I wanted to finish this table runner that I had waiting for spring.  Since it is tomorrow and I don't think many members will be reading blogs tonight I am going to go ahead a post a pic of it.  It all started off with a modern center and then borders added to it.  I was looking for a quick way to add the binding so I watched a you tube video on doing it by machine so that is how it was finished  and I really did enjoy the process.  I am a binding kind of girl.  I like adding to it by sitting and enjoying hand stitching the binding on but since I cannot do any hand stitching in length at the moment I decided to try the machine and boy was it quick...now don't look at the quilting too close cause I am in learning mood.......anyway I hope you enjoy!

Need to get a grip on things I guess

I find myself lately needing to get a grip on things.  I have been very melancholy lately and feeling very edgy.  Maybe I just need to step back and step out of things to do this.  I feel like I always try to do the right thing and think positive in life but where is the reward in putting so much energy into it.... Pay no attention to this post my feelings have been hurt lately by someone I really looked up to and I just need to get over it...putting it in black and white might help me see how ugly it is..... I will be back to myself soon.

Family with pics of DH & Brother

Well today we had a family birthday party for my gran-daughter, Phalynn, who just turned 4.  I wanted to post a few pics of the people that you all have been so graciously rooting for either by prayer, good intentions or karma.  My son who lives right down the street had a little get together party for his daughter for her birthday and although my daughter and S-i-L didn't make it, I do have a pic of my brother and dh.  I truly do believe that only through the grace of God and good intentions, all of us were there for this occasion...so thank you and here are the people you were rooting for:
This was the guest of honor:  Phalynn, my son Gene and daughter-in-law Samantha

her brother Dayton

my one and only brother, Carl

her grandpa & my dh, Gene

last but not least me, grandma

Thanks again you all are so appreciated!
