"Corkie" my best friend

I am very sad at the moment and wanted to dedicate this post to my very best friend in the whole world which was my Pomeranian "Corkie". He always had time for me, listened to me even when I babbled, which is every time I get up tight, he never sassed me or talked back, he always wore a smile which I needed to see many times. I had him since he was 5 weeks old and he was going to turn 11 this february. I will miss you my friend, thank you for being part of my life..

A very precious gift

I have a good Friend in Colorado, Leslie, and she sent me a beautiful gift for Christmas. I have been waiting for a pretty sunny day to take a pic but this will be the 4Th day with very little sun so I am going to post it anyway....Leslie has been a friend of mine since I started crazy quilting and she belongs to the very first group that I joined when I decided that I would love to learn this beautiful art which is crazyquiling international or CQI. She has been there to help me whenever I needed it and has always given me a warm smile and/or a boot in the pants if I needed it. She has helped me get the very nasty self critic, that I have trouble with, off my shoulders and is very encouraging. Her talent for crazy quilting is UN-matchable, I think her art signature is "trees" she does some pretty awesome ones and I am proud to call her my friend. I trust her opinion immensely. Thank you Leslie for this beautiful gift and I will treasure it always..I look forward to a day when we can meet in person.

But I did manage to hold out this year and they are filled with all kinds of yummie stuff to add to my cq stash so I would love for you to take a gander at them....enjoy

Christmas Crackers

On my CQI group we exchange Christmas crackers. Which are actually about an 8" towel paper roll filled with buttons, thread, fibers, beads, fabrics and all kinds of trinkets, silkies, lace to do crazy-quilting with. You make a cq block and wrap it around the roll and then you can add wrapping paper or fabric around that and tie it off and then send it to different cq sisters and you get one in exchange. The hardest part is waiting until Christmas to open them. Now I have to tell the truth here and say that last year I could not wait...curiosity got the best of me and I had to open but so far this year it has not and I think I may be able to hold out...only because I am really busy this year with Dayton being with us and all that I kind of try not to think about it...this is a pic of the two that I sent out this year. I will later take a pic of the 2 that I received....

Our first snow

I am finally getting around to posting some pics of our first snow here and it was beautiful. We never really get too much here anymore but this was early in the morning and so beautiful. It melted by noon but all 8 of us were up at 6:30 to see it. My grandson Dayton never saw snow before so we bundled him up so he could throw his first snow ball at age 8. Pretty awesome huh? There is something about the snow when it has not been touched that always tugs at my heart. It is so clean, so quiet I guess a could way of explaining it would be pure in the truest form. But I hope you see what I saw that morning.....I hope you all get to hold your family close and keep goodness in your heart. Happy Holidays!!!

iron caddy

A friend of mine saw a pic of an iron caddy in a magazine it did not have a pattern it was just a picture so she designed a caddy similar to the one she saw in a magazine and this is my version. This way when you take your iron with you and it is hot you can still pack it up and be on your way. No more waiting for it to cool...yeah

My last kitten

My siamese cat got out one night and then 8 weeks later we had 3 beautiful kittens and I only have one left and would love to keep her but since I am allergic to cats I think one is enough don't you..so here is "Bella" who had just found a new Mom I will miss her..

My recent class "Cathedral Windows"

Well I had signed up for a class about 2 months ago and almost forgot about it. But it was for the machine version of "cathedral windows" Well we only got this far in the class. Now if I do get to start mine in the new year I will be using the red fabric as I want it for a Christmas quilt but I will be not using the muslin, that was just for the class and learning the technique. I can tell you that it was nice working on their sewing machines and it only enriches my tast for a Bernina some day....enjoy

Note: I had this marked for "attic" windows until Pat reminded me to check my windows and they must have been dirty because it is "Cathedral" windows pattern, thanks Pat

A gift

I wanted to share a pic of a gift that was made for me for my birthday. I know allot of us quilters journal and I have always wanted to make myself a journal fabric cover. Well a friend of mine, Linda, she is the lady I met over the internet through a mutual internet friend of ours. Well Linda took the first step and sent me an email since she lived in Chattanooga also and was looking for a stitching buddy. Well since we met I have invited her to a few guilds here in town and she joined. We have also set up Wednesdays for now since I am not working to spend some stitching time together and I am so glad we did. I think we truly enjoy the time we get to spend together. Well I don't know how she knew but this is what she made for me and gave it to me for my birthday. Isn't it lovely? THank you Linda I cannot tell you how much I appreciated the gift and intend on making it my 2o1o year journal...

My Christmas Stocking

I am on an exchange list for a christmas stocking. I just love receiving one of these and making one to give out also. I was on one last year and decided that I wanted to do it again this year. Well I finally finished it and here is my christmas stocking for Christmas 2009. The theme was Santas so to me that meant that somewhere on the stocking you had to show and do your best to depict a Santa or colors of what Santa has meant to you. I hope you all feel I did this and I feel pretty good about it. Enjoy and as always please leave a comment and let me know what you think...

Philadelphia

This is where I was born and although I have been away for a long time I still have fond memories of growing up there, especially around the holidays. It was a time where I had my Dad living, we did not have to lock our doors at night and Halloween was a "dancing in the streets" kind of celebration. Well the founder of Philadelphia was William Penn and it is his birthday and I just wanted to make a note of it.

Oct 24, Birthday of William Penn (1644-1713) — British Quaker; advocate for peace and liberty. Penn founded Philadelphia ("city of brotherly love") and considered Pennsylvania his "holy experiment”: ”that an example may be set up to the nations."

My birthday is on the 26th

My birthday is on the 26th and so you will have a little insight on me a friend of mine sent me this reading she had done on me....interesting I thought so I wanted to share.

Section 1: How You Approach Life and How You Appear To Others

You appear gentle and soft, and you act rather reserved with
others until you know them well and feel it is safe to be open
with them. You have a strong need for emotional security and a
sense of belonging, and are deeply attached to the past: your
heritage, roots, family, cherished friends, familiar places, etc.
Making radical changes or moves away from what is known and safe
can be very painful and difficult for you. You tend to cling and
hold on to people, memories, possessions of personal or
sentimental significance. Having a home, a safe haven, is very
important to you.

Section 2: The Inner You: Your Real Motivation

Harmony and balance are your keynotes. You instinctively
understand the need to accommodate other peoples' interests and
desires, and you are always fair and willing to meet the other
person half way. Tactful, diplomatic, and with considerable
social awareness, you do all you can to avoid conflict and
discord. You express a spirit of cooperation and compromise and
often achieve through charm and discretion what would have been
impossible to achieve by a direct, forceful approach

Layering my Stitches

It is so hard for me to find the time to stitch anymore. My job is pretty stressful lately well the last 4 months or so and I never seem to have much "me" time between all that goes on at work and at home. I am constantly bringing it home with me and I need to stop it right now. Don't get me wrong I am so thankful I have a job in this day and age but it has been a bit overwhelming. But enough about that.
I have a mentor that has been helping me learn to layer my stitches. She is a wonderful friend named Leslie and I promised myself I am going to just somehow make the time and tonight I did just that here is the Herringbone and the Cretan stitch which the later I am not fond of. I really like the way it looks just not the way I make it look. Do you know what I mean? Hopefully this Saturday I will visit with a stitching buddy here in Chattanooga, Linda, but I will have to see if I have to work on Saturday first. So here is a pic I wanted to share. All helpful criticism is welcomed but please be gentle...lol Enjoy your Day!!!!!

Grandson and football

Well after all this time I finally get to watch my 7 year old grandson playing football. Well he is not playing yet but practicing... It seems like we have been waiting forever since he left us a few years ago and we only got to see him every now and again. He use to live with us when he was 4 & 5 then his Momma came and took him back to Florida with her and now he is back again. I can not tell you how if fills my heart with such joy to have him back with us again.. Here is a few pics of him in his uniform.

Feed Sacks

I have to share this tidbit of news. About 2 or 3 months ago I was gifted with 2 bags of fabric if you remember. Come to find out they were all vintage fabric from the 1925ish to 1932ish period. Well yesterday I was gifted with another bag of feed sacks from the same Lady and they are all different from the first 2 bags. She had told me that there was a missing bag and she would have to find it and well she did. I never was into this kind of fabric but after reading up on it and really giving it a gander it has grown on me. I hope to post pics after I get them all straightened out, which thanks to Vicki who helped me with the first 2, will help me with this one also. I have the story about where they came from and everything and I think that is what even appealed to me more. Just had to share!! I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Long & Short stitch

I am working on some handwork at the present time. Needle & Thread, Mary's site is having a lesson on the long & short stitch. So this is a pic of just one box that I have done so far following her directions. I think it does look pretty.
