TasT wk 4 Cretan Stitch

OMGosh this is Sharon's Tast challenge for week 4....Anybody that knows me, even my mentor because she spent at least 3 hours with me on doing this stitch, knows that this stitch and I do not get along. When I was practicing it, it looked ok I just do not think I like this stitch so I added a herringbone and a straight stitch to it and now I like it better...enjoy and Thanks Sharon!

In Kathy's group she had a stitch around where who ever signed up made 3 small blocks mailed them to her in turn she stitched on one and then Kathy sent the other 2 blocks to two other people to stitch on. Mine are all home and they all look lovely. I want to do something special with them and will show you all when I figure out what I want to do...here are my three that have returned home to me....Thank you Kathy, Patricia and Shari for a lovely job on each one....I will treasure them. They line up form top to bottom, Shari, Patricia and Kathy! enjoy!

My 2 CQ blocks are finished

Back in November a group of us made 3 blocks and sent them to Kathy Shaw. She was going to do one and send it back to us then the other 2 went to two different people and needed to be returned by Feb. 1st. I did send mine back to PJ and Andrea and forgot to post a pic so here they are...I hope they like them. I will post the ones that were done for me shortly. Have a great day.

Friendship Friday- Inspiration

Really other bloggers, friends, life in general is an inspiration. I can look out the window and see inspiration, it is all relevant in the artist view I think. Hi we have a group called "Greatful threads" that meet once a month at our quilt shop. The weather is really foggy and rainy so no meeting but I wanted to post a pic of our challenge. We had a one word challenge that we were to make no bigger than a 12 x 12 or we could make a 9 x 12 as a donation to the Alzheimer Campaign here is my picture..........Remembering the theme is HotStuff! I used muslin and added a piece of cheesecloth saturated in modge podge and water mixed...then I used watercolor paint for the background and also for Mr thermometer added batting and a backing, quilted it then added the binding...enjoy!

Because of the way my other stitches came out on my first change purse I made another. This time I just used the walking foot and the stitches look allot better so I am still trying to figure out why the other stitches were so loose in the back... I guess it could be the sewing machine it is an older one and maybe it has had enough...lol have a good Saturday

FMQ practice

I made a little coin purse and decided to add some leaves and doodling of the FMQ that I have been doing. The only thing is it seemed like all my stitches were loose in the back. Does anyone know what causes this. I messed with the tension on the top but it really did not seem to help. What I did use was bottom line thread. Help if you can....here is a pic

I just watched a video from SewCalGal's FMQ. Frances is our teacher for January and our first one was working with leaves this is my first try at it. I found this really fun and wanted to post a pic of it. For those that do not know. SewCalGal has teamed up with other quilt artist to teach FMQ in 2012 on our home sewing machines. Look for her button on my sidebar and join in. Here is a pic of my first experience with FMQ, have a wonderful day! The Fly Stitch

I am on Sharon B's TAST program for "2012". Our first stitch was the fly stitch........ http://www.pintangle.com/journal/2012/1/3/take-a-stitch-tuesday-week-1.html Sharon will post a new stitch every Tuesday and this is the one for this week. I would like to do a bell pull, that is my intention but it is not together yet so I will work on my candle mat and try to finish it. I used 2 strands of floss and then added the pink silk ribbon in the same stitch. I think it would make a pretty flower. Hopefully in a few weeks my bell pull will be finished...thanks for taking a peek....

Wanted to take a moment and wish you all a very Happy, prosperous, creative and fun filled "2012". Take some time to enrich the lives of your self, your families and your friends. I can tell you for myself I see and maybe not see but feel that there will be changes in my life this year and I am going to just try and go with the flow and hope that the Lord will be walking with me through it all...I also would like to thank those who have shared their "2011" with me and I look forward to sharing my "2012" with you.
I have learned allot this year about people in general and to a few I found out what friendship really means to them and to tell you the truth I needed to learn this lesson i.e. just cause it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck doesn't mean it is a duck who would know that I would think it would be a duck wouldn't you...lol
Well anyway enough of that...I look forward to a wonderful 2012 sharing and caring......goodnight and sweet dreams...

The first picture was the charms that Susie sent me in my 12 days secret sister exchange on our WWCQ group. When I say she spoiled me look at the second pic with all the threads and fibers that she also sent me. I have never even used some of these so this is very exciting. What we were suppose to do is mimick the 12 days of Christmas and change the words like
On the first day of Christmas my secret sister sent to me a vintage silkie....
On the second day of Christmas my secret sister sent to me two silver charms.. and so forth...then on the l2th day of Christmas my secret sister sent o me a handmade ?????? well you get the point.
Needless to say that Susie did not pay attention because she sent me all these beautiful threads and fibers that I am going to be having so much fun stitching with.....Thanks so much Susie!

This I made for my friend Linda. She wanted a purse made with Kaffe fabrics. Now this is the smaller one. There are 2 patterns for the Bow Tucks pattern the smaller one and the larger one. I will also be making her a larger one....I just do not know what fabric I am going to use yet. And that will be after the holiday...but she was very pleased with this one which made me happy. Well I finally finished my friends applique' portifolio. She does beautiful applique' and I thought she might be able to use this. We have been exchanging gifts for over 10 years and I am running out of ideas so I thought this might be nice...then I also finished a watch and necklace for another friend she was the one that got me into making jewelry oh I guess about 5 years ago so I do still dabble in it......enjoy your evening

My word for 2012

I have chosen my word for "2012". Instead of doing a resolution this year, which always seems to get pushed around until I really do not remember what the resolution was, I have chosen a word. Hopefully this will help me be a better person, really work on things I want to finish and things I want to learn. So my new word for "2012" is F O C U S . Are yo creating a word for this year!

American Sewing Group (ASG)

Last week we had our last meeting for our ASG group as one group. Come January we will be breaking up into 3 groups for now. Group 1 will be all kinds of threads and fibers: Group 2 will be a quilting group and last but not lest Group 3 will be Garment Sewing. So here are a few pics from that meeting. The lady in the black sweater is our president, Julie:

One of our members made a bunch of calendars for us and another one brought allot of the older magazines that had references to garment sewing in them. We also had a cover dish. I think a fun time was had by all.

An update on me and our Christmas Tree

So many of you have been following my medical mystery and testing that I have been going thru and in this last week it is all starting to come together. It has been determined that I ave been having small seizures. But like we were thinking they are not coming from my brain but from my heart. There is an irregular rhythm going on somewhere in there that is causing the seizures. For now I am on seizure medicine and in January they weill be adding a small electrode box under the skin to determine the extent of my heart rhythms. But I wanted to let the very many people that have been sending prayers and good Karma my way to know that they have not gone unanswered. It is still a process but we are getting closer and do have some answers. And I appreciate all the prayers and karma that has been sent my way..I could not have went thru all this without them, "thank you".

Kathy Shawl's Group

In one of the Crazyquilt groups that I am in "Kathy Shawl's she issued a challenge to send her 3- 4 x 6" blocks. She would embellish one and return it then send the other 2 to different people and have them embellish it and send it back. She has a wonderful turn out and now we received our 2 that we need to embellish and she has already finished with some and mine was one of them This is the block that she returned to me and isn't it awesome.

Brown Bag Challenge

In our local crazy quilt group we just finished up a brown bag add a border challenge. There were 2 groups one that had 4 people in it and one that had 3. Well we challenged ourselves if we wanted to do something that we never tried before. This is Delores Quilt. She did the very center; then Linda did the next round up into the 1: checkerboard round and then I did the last round. What I did was painted leaves with the Lumiere paints and then stitched around the leaves. I liked the process the only thing is you have to make sure that the person will not be washing the piece and that it will be a wall hanging or table topper because then you will ruin the paint. Words to myself

Well I am posting a note to myself so I can come back and read it time and time again...when I need it. I enjoy my guilds and groups so much because they are just the type of people that I love to be around. I belong to quilt guilds and groups, fiber art groups and sewing guilds. To me, other than my family, we are the best people to be around. In my opinion we are creative, knowledgeable, understanding, forthright, we love to share and help other people. We love to make for those less fortunate and there are many other adjectives and verbs I could think of to use but if you are reading this than you already know them but one major thought about others in this area.... we love to SMILE and HUG and sometimes that is all someone needs to make their day. What has led me to writing this post is, as some of you know, lately I have been rather housebound to a certain degree until a few personal things are worked out and since I have been partially housebound I have been cleaning up or out or reorganizing my Stuff! Boy oh boy do I have allot of stuff so I am thinking about this year coming up and since I really have accomplished so much in the last month or so (some things I cannot reveal due to being presents from Santa) I think what I am thinking is maybe taking a few of my groups/guilds and taking a hiatus just for who knows 6 months to a year to really work on getting some of my own stuff done without putting the pressure on myself to feel like I need to do everything that each group/guild is doing. Also I had a friend, Linda who use to come over once a week, when I had a larger sewing room and we would just stitch and talk together maybe treat ourselves to a lunch once in awhile and I really do miss that. We could not stay in my sewing room, I don't think anyway but we could use the l/r or something just to have our quality time back. I think she misses it too well at least I hope she misses it and we could get back to it after the first of the year. I also have another friend, Vicky that would also like to join in every now and again. What better thing than to share your time and your hobbies with your friends.
I generally do not post a "what I am thinking" post but you know way back when I first started this blog that is what it was suppose to be for and every now and again I did post a personal note but I must be changing or something is going on with me because I feel the need to really start connecting through putting pen to paper or fingers to keypad...lol See there is something else allot of you do not know about me; I use to write all the time since I was oh I guess about 11 years old. I have journals and journals up until oh I guess I was around 30 and then I stopped for personal reasons I guess but anyway these are my thoughts right now and where ever they lead I am looking forward to bringing in the New Year with friends and family......enjoy your day!

To my family & friends and my extended family and friends I wanted to take a moment and say " thank you"! I have had a bit of a tough year and you all have helped me through it in some way. At times I did not know how I was going to get through some of it and I could always come here and reach out and you all were there. And in such a gentle way I could not ask for a better Internet circle of family/friends. I hope the next year finds good things for us and our family. I know God never gives us more than what we can bear and what I felt I could not bare I came here to share and you all helped me so I say "thank you" and if I can help any of you all in some small way I will be there. You know I was thinking the other day that if we all could put a pile of our hardships out there in front of us and we could all see each others then we more than likely would take ours back. Needing help with blogs

Good morning I am wondering if anyone els has had the same problem I am having. Whenever I go to a blog it is taking me forever to be able to go anywhere or post a comment on any blog that I go to , even my own. I keep getting a message at the bottom of the blog that says blogger needs to recover. So i hit the reover page and it takes me, without a word of lie at least 14 to 20 minutes for it to recover and then someimtes I still cannot leave a comment or anything. I am thinking that something is not connecting and it has only been since this new computer that I had to get almost a couple of weeks ago. I have sent bloggers a note about it and have not heard anything yet so I was wondering if anyone else has gone thru this? Apprecite any words of advice.

Ghastlie Blog Hop

Yes I was one of the 54 and now there are none. Yep I fell pray to ghastlie happenings when Madame Samm and her "54" went to print. My computer caught a ghastlie bug and my sewing machine bent over backwards to help me finish my ghastlie projects but to know avail......but what my sewing machine could not finish I tried free handing, twitching my nose and all sorts of stuff just to finish and believe you me I had a ghastlie time of it. Now our fearless leader just loves hand stitching but I tell you it is just ghastlie, just ghastlie!!!
In all seriousness I had a good time putting my projects together and when I could had a wonderful time reading all my sista's ghastlie projects. If you click on my side bar you can go there and still look at all the things that were created by a ghastlie group of women who joined their leader and had a wonderful time with just one line of Alexander Henry's Ghastlie Fabric...it was awesome to watch unfold....Thank you Madame Samm for including me in this endeaver and I am a day late, I apologize it was not meant to be......Now let me see if I can get some ghastlie photos of my projects that did get done.. My Thread Holder

hello everyone it has been awhile but there has been so much going on personally that I have not been able to really just catch my breath. I wanted to show you the thread holder I made. Ihave used Edmar thread but was not satisfied with what happen to it after I opened the thread. It would tangle up and I would lose half of the thread because it would get to be such a mess so I thought ok what can I do to just have it hang. SO I made this little cover to go over one of those pant hangers and then took ribbon and stitched it on the bottom, hung little closthespins on them and once I opened the edmar thread I could hang it from the clothespins and it stayed loose and free and no more tangles. Now mind you since I made this I was shown how to untie the edmar thread and put it together without any of those messes so now I do not need to make these but I do think they are cute.

Good Morning eveyone. I just wanted to give a heads up to the above referenced blog of Madame Samm. She is a very tallanted lady who has given the quilting world a voice thru her blog. Hi there this note goes out to Madame Samm and Karen. I wanted to show them my red and white quilts (I have 2) but the other is at my sons house because when he got married he needed to borrow some blankets and such for people that were staying at his house so my other one is over there. Hi everyone I am still here. I found the box and then had family over for a week so really didn't get too much done but plan on staying in my sewing room tomorrow and playing catch up still. Good Sunday morning! It has been a little bit since I posted other than about my sons wedding but I have been looking for a box of recent projects that I had been working on before we moved and I finally found it. I was working on a challenge quilt and it just needed a little bit done on it so I can finish that..I needed to add a binding to a cuddle quilt so I can finish that...I also made a watch for a friend's birthday and it was on the top and I found that but it was crushed and falling apart so I will have to remake that. She has been waiting since the end of May so I guess a little longer will not hurt, I hope anyway. So I better get busy just wanted to shout out a "hello"....enjoy

My son and his future bride have set a date of July 9th of this year to be married. They wanted to wait until all this business with the baby was done and a few other family issues that were happening were settled before they set a date. They want a small outside wedding with family and close friends and the date will be July 9th. I am very happy for Gene and Samantha they have known each other for a long time and started dating well actually they dated 2 different times, and now they are ready to be married. She loves the kids and they love her. They seem well suited for one another and bring out the best in each other..I really could not ask for a better daughter-in-law....I hope they have a long, wonderful happy life together.....

My Son and his future wife, when all is said and done

I am posting this picture because it has been such a battle for my son to gain custody of his 2 children. He is a wonderful Father and has been fighting for what is best for them for a long time. Well Dayton you know already is with his Dad but after yesterday it became official he has full custody of his daughter who is 2 yr old Phalynn. So as soon as the judge said she is giving full rights to my son we waited for the paperwork and then this picture I took like 15 minutes after it was all said and done right in front of the courthouse building. So this is my Son and his Fiance', Samantha with the all important document that he has been fighting to get for some time now...it was a very happy occasion...and lately in my world they do not come too often.

Hey there well I hope this note finds all friends and family well. We have our last court date for the grandbaby coming up next week and hope all goes well there. Everyone that I know that was involved in the tornados is starting to rebuild and look toward a better future which is really a piece of wonderful news. But there are still so many without......We did lose our LQS which was Sew-Bee-It but they have already broke ground for that.
I did manage to do some hand stitching on a block to send out for the Sendai Hearts and Hands group. Enjoy and count your blessings everyday!

ATC Swap

I have made 3 atc's to swap out with members in a group that I am in and wanted to share pics. With each one I tried a different method, first one I used foil and black archieval ink then added some foam pieces, second I used luminere paint on paper towel and sealed it then stamped a moon and stars on it and hand stitched and last I used a inkjet transfer pic that I had and frayed the piece of fabric it is on. I really enjoyed working on these....have a good evening.

Working with Orange, blue & Purple..

Our challenge this month with our challenge group was working with primarily orange then blue and purple. We could use any shades and a little of some other color. So what I did was

decided to try to put in fabric a Tennessean' dream of a superbowl....lol I made the field out of orange and the post and yd lines blue. Then added mountains using fabric, texture magic and fabric paint. the sky was all shades of blue and purple....it was a challenge to only use those colors but all in all I think it came out ok. I used a white marking pen for the numbers and I wished that I did not but it was already too late so I will know next time that it is not good to use for something like that. For the TN Vols I tried just stitching it in blue but did not look dark enough so then I used fabric paint....

Well we finally got home around 7:00/ We started at court at 9 this morning and got out of there around 4:40 and then home after dropping this one off and picking up that one. BUT it was worth it...Gene has transition custody of Phalynn which means for 5 weeks she will be with him for 5 days and then the other 2 still with her other grandmother as this will make it easier for her and her 5 yr old brother to slowly ajust to them living away from each other, which I think is very good for both of them. But what a day. I cannot tell you how this experience with Phalynn and Dayton recently have been eye openers. I expect everything to have cracks but this was just unbelievable. And this is totally my opinion. Tomorrow I will pick some of her stuff up and her for this stretch of the healing process to begin for all.

Ok enough already let the healing all the way around begin. Thanks again for all the well wishes they were really appreciated.

Today hopefully will be the last court day for my son with his daughter. Again thank you all for all your prayers, karma and never ending support you have given me thru my grandsons' kidnapping. He is now returned home to his Dad and for that I am thankful.....Hopefully it will take time but we can all get back into something as close to normal as that would be nice.

We will know this afternoon what the emmergency court hearing is all about with Dayton but for right now he is safe and in school but I will update you all as it unfolds....thanks again for all your prayers they are so much appreciated...

I know there are a few things I am still catching up on but I will try my best to have it all done this week and be able to start out fresh and resume my weekly visits and stitch meetings with my guilds and friends they have been very supportive and positive for me..thank you

Triptych Challenge

I am in a triptych challenge on a Fiber arts group that I am in and I finally completed them on Saturday...

We keep one and pass on the other two..The challenge was "celebrate me" We had to add as much as we could to tell a little about ourselves I started with my heritage with the teepee at the top, then I live in the south with mountains and trees and a white picket fence for my flowers then on the other side I added things from my sewing room...a zipper, buttons, beads, charms, wool, different fibers. Then I wanted to do something different so I used the left top side of the panel as a pin keeper and added a pincushion that could be removed for use. Border the sides with a piece of knitting thread backed it with a lovely piece of cardstock and it was complete and it was also allot of fun.....enjoy Oh by the way my words I choose to use were Live, Love and Laugh.

Hearts and Hands for Sendai
At CQI, we are sponsoring a project to generate funds for the recovery effort in Japan. Our dear friend Hideko Ishida is fortuneately safe along with Emiko. We continue to keep her in our thoughts as she waits to hear about her family. This project is open to everyone interested in participating in the quilting community, both traditional and crazy quilting. I am posting the guidelines here. Hearts and Hands For Sendai

This project will be dedicated to helping those affected by the earthquake tsunami disaster in Japan. Per Hideko Ishida's request, all quilts will become a part of an exhibit in Japan where money will be raised by viewing the quilts. Ultimately, these quilts may be auctioned and the proceeds given to a charity designated by Hideko Ishida, our Japanese CQ Sister! We will keep everyone informed as time progresses. This project is open to the quilting community at large! Guidelines are as follows:

Theme: Friendship and re-building of a country

Finished block size: 8 inches

Colors: Jewel Tones

Style: traditional or crazy quilt blocks will be accepted

For traditional quilt blocks, there are no pattern restrictions. The only requirements are the size and the colors. Finished size is to be 8 inches (20.32 cm). Please allow a half inch seam allowance. Colors are jewel tones. No restrictions to the type of fabric used.

For crazy quilt blocks:

_ Cut foundation at 9 inches (22.86 cm), piece the entire foundation.

_ Baste a line at 8 inches (20.32 cm) to stop embroidering

_ Do not add beads or charms past 7 ½ inches (19.05 cm)

_ Zig zag edges to prevent edges from fraying.

_ Add your name and address on the back of the block.

_ Mark the block with “UP” to show which side is the top

_ Prefer all fabrics used be “fancies” (ie: silk, satin, taffeta, velvet) but if you have

some kimono fabrics or other oriental themed fabrics in your stash you are

welcome to use them.

_ All beading MUST be double stitched and knotted with BEADING THREAD!!!

NO exceptions!!! These items will be handled a great deal and beads, buttons,

charms are among the first to begin to loosen. Embellishments – may be done

by machine or by hand.

_ Lace and other motifs are acceptable and must be securely attached

_ Trims are acceptable and must be securely attached

_ SRE is acceptable

_ Tatting and crocheted butterflies and dragonflys, etc are acceptable and must

be securely attached

_ Please sign the back of your block

Please refrain from using any reference to the rising sun. This has political connotations we do not want to be involved with.

Just be aware

This was on the Quilting Board this morning! Just thought maybe it would help us be more aware:

"I thought I'd give you all a heads up about Frixion Erasable pens. A student showed me hers at Road to California in January. She drew a line, thin but quite black, and then ironed it and the line totally disappeared. It looked like the coolest thing ever!

So I went in search of these pens, which you can get a Staples. I bought the pack that has three colors in it - black, red and blue. Being quite the skeptic about things that are too good to be true, I read the back of the package. In small print it says: "Do not expose to extreme temperatures (<14degrees F;> 140 degrees F). If pen is exposed to temperature that reaches 140 degrees F the ink will be colorless when writing. To restore color, cool to at least 14 degrees F and the ink will again write in color."

Aha! I said to myself. If you iron the ink it's going to be way over 140 degrees so it's going to disappear. So I took some fabric and scribbled on it with all three colors. Then I ironed it and, sure enough, all the scribbles disappeared. But then I put it in the freezer for about 10 minutes and all the lines reappeared. I left it for about a week and a half while I went travelling and today I tried to wash the ink out. It didn't come out with soap and hard scrubbing and not even after I put rubbing alchohol on it. So then I ironed the piece dry and all the lines disappeared and then it went back to the freezer and all the lines reappeared (perhaps just a bit fainter).

This experiment was enough to persuade me that these pens are too good to be true and even sort of creepy - the ink is always there even if you can't see it. I wouldn't use them on any fabric or quilt you really cared about"

Mug Rugs for a road trip

Well I want to show you my first 6 mug rugs. I went to a quilt show in Pigeon Forge with 5 other ladies from my quilt guild. Now I really did not know 4 of them that well, and Linda well we get together once a week to stitch, other than to chat every now and again at guild.

Here we are!

They just mentioned a few weeks ago that they had room for 2 more people to go to the show if anyone was interested so Linda and I said great we would go. Well if you never go somewhere without knowing the people first or do not go to retreats because you do not know all the peoples then in my experience you are really missing out on a fun time. We left at 6:30 in the AM and did not return until around 10:30 PM and we had a really good time. Well I am sure that is too much info but to make a longer story shorter I made each one of us a mug rug and at the end of the night we all signed each others. It was just fun and a little RAK to say "thank you" and here they are!

My daughters Winterfest

A few friends of mine, Linda, Vicky Judy and myself went to a quilt show this weekend and here are some pics of the quilts that were there. The first place duo is a friend of mine Joaneen B, 3rd place contemp. was Vicky's and a beautiful "Dear Jane" there was also a crazyquilt that came in 2nd for small quilts (which it was really nice to see) and there were other beautiful ones there so I wanted to share some pics.
